A few drops of rain this morning. They were welcome, as they helped clear some of the smoke. Unfortunately, the Perseids will likely be hidden tonight by smoke and clouds. It’s disappointing, as it seems to be becoming a regular thing to have them obscured by smoke.
This year they fall during a new moon, so under good conditions they would be quite a sight in a dark sky. That’s the way it goes sometimes. Will keep a look out regardless. A hole in the din may develop.
Here are a few pictures of wildflowers from the other day. The names I use may not be proper. Just like creeks and mountains I tend to call them by the names I learned long ago.

never heard of a ‘Snow Algae’ – does it grow on semi-permanent/long lasting snow patches?
We used to sell Arnica at the health shop I worked in part-time not long before I retired – for bruises (not sure why you’d bother treating a bruise myself) – but I’d never seen the plant so that was interesting!

Snow Algae lies dormant through winter and then blooms when the ice and snow starts to melt. We used to think it was blood that had washed down and invented stories in our heads.
Yes, indigenous people here used to use the Arnica plant for many medical uses.

it would be interesting to ask them what else they used it for. We used to sell it at my health shop but it was only listed for bruising.

No sign of anything astronomical here for days and nights. Wed we got 2.6″ of rain and another 0.6 today. A lot more on the way Fri. It’s more humid here than the Amazon forest.

That’s a lot of rain. No Perseids here either. Smoke and cloud with a few drops of rain. I did go out looking hoping a hole to the stars to open up but it wasn’t to be.
