Rolled out of bed early to get a look at the eclipse. Once in full eclipse it was brilliant red. It is intriguing as it goes from full moon to eclipse. Once the moon is in the shadow of earth the stars come out. Including the rising Milky Way in the east.
This is a quick picture. This is the first time taking a lunar eclipse with a higher resolution camera. I will look over the rest of the photos in the next day or two.
Willow would have really enjoyed the morning. So strange without her keeping the perimeter.

Such a lovely scene.

Superb photo and what a sight it must have been! I’m a bit of an astronomical dummy – should we have been able to see it in England as it was a lovely clear night for a change?
BTW – on Willow – I’m absolutely amazed that such a small (but obviously tenacious and determined) dog can chase bears up trees!

Hi Carol, no you would not have been able to see that Lunar Eclipse. However, lunar eclipses are not that rare and England would get its share. It was nice for it to be clear during this one.
I may have misspoke regarding Willow. What she does is bark the bears up the trees. Once up the tree, she would then approach the tree. This is what you want your dog to do. Chasing bears is not the best, as the bear could end up chasing the dog and the dog will be coming straight back to its owner. I never had to teach Willow how to behave, she just seemed to naturally know it. I could always tell by watching her what was ahead on the trail, especially at night in the dark. If there was something to be concerned about Willow let her thoughts be known. She was very useful.
Regarding bears and dogs, this is one of the reasons you can’t use dogs to hunt bears in Canada, because a good dog can tree a bear.

I knew you meant she barked them up the trees but I still find it incredible that a big bear takes any notice of a small dog – good that it does though… You definitely wouldn’t want her chasing bears I agree as that’s exactly how it would have gone. She sounded a really astute dog – a great asset to have with you on your forays!
On the eclipse front, we do have lunar eclipses but we don’t have all that many clear skies up here… But I have a tale about a solar eclipse which happened one day when I was at work. It was a really good one and I stopped work and went outside to watch the whole thing. I asked others if they were coming outside and they just looked bored and didn’t bother. I was really spectacular and went really dark – who wouldn’t want to watch that?

Great story about the solar eclipse. These events are not to be missed. Some people travel all over the world, including to the middle of the ocean to see them.

That is a very nice photo. Good that you had clear sky. We were under a dense cloud layer. So, I visited a trusty site online that was carrying 3 or 4 live streams from various places. Very interesting and colorful.

Hi Jim. We were fortunate it was clear. Shortly after totality it did cloud over. I have a day off tomorrow and I’m going to look through the rest of the photos. I hope to do another post on the eclipse. Thanks for commenting.

Incredibly beautiful. If you were a painter and painted this, it would look unreal and fake. But it is real….and stunning!

I always wonder what ancient humans thought when some of these astronomical events happen. They really are incredible to see even in our era.

We were very lucky it was clear the night of the eclipse. We haven’t had many clear nights this winter. I have been enjoying your blog. Thank you for the shout out. I hope you stop by again. Take care.
