Old Tracks

Hind and front. Glad we came along later.

Before bed I thought I’d better make sure the garden gate was closed. Walked outside into a warm evening. I never walk anywhere without boots. The garden is only thirty paces from the basement door. I figured I was safe to go barefoot. Half way there I stepped on a wasp and got stung in the crotch of the big toe and the tall one next to it. Damn. That’s seven stings this year! It could be my new record.

Little Big Dog.

I remember when I was about four, one morning, I took a stick and knocked down a nest in the shed. I was stung on the nose. That night I was with my Dad picking raspberries at my Aunt Elenor’s place and got stung on the ass.

Dad thought it was hilarious I was stung on the nose and ass in the same day. He laughed telling Mom when we got home. I couldn’t see the humour in it at the time. Now I am a Dad and Grandad it is damn funny. I can’t help laughing when I reminisce.

I hate wasp stings. If you put vinegar on them it lessens the sting though…

I had a wasps’ nest in my compost bin. They were fine all year until they got grumpy in the cooler weather of the autumn. Then, I went to put something in the compost and the whole lot flew out at me. I rushed back into my house followed by a lot of the swarm, ran through the house and out the front – still followed by most of the swarm. By now I was shouting and beating myself around the head. I then ran back into the house.

So… what the neighbours saw was me run out of the house beating myself around the head and yelling, do a circle on the drive and run back in again. They must’ve thought I was nuts! I was lucky and only got 3 stings. 3 wasps came back into the house and they got a squashed by a sharp slap from a slipper!

I haven’t heard that remedy to lessen the pain of wasp stings. I will have to give it a try. Good story of outrunning the wasps! Take care.

When I had the 3 wasp stings, I found that a good time to see what worked on them. I tried bicarb of soda on one, vinegar on the other (one helps for bee stings and the other for wasps and I couldn’t remember which). The vinegar really helped so I used that on the other one!
