The garden is on its last legs. It’s a good time of year when you can go out and grab supper; broccoli, spuds, kale, beets, carrots, and plenty of tomatoes.
We have yet to have frost so the tomatoes are outdoing themselves. Plenty of ripe ones. They need picking everyday. Lisa and Scarlett took a bunch down to the old folks home yesterday, something our kids did regularly when the garden produced more than it does now.
Life is good when you have home grown tomato salad for every meal.

Our cherry tomatoes are going strong. Basil is looking good for a 2nd harvest to make pesto. The poblanos are ripe.

Hi Jim, we did have basil this year. It goes good with tomato salads. Not enough for Pesto, however. Do you use pine nuts?

We don’t use them. Walnuts instead. We put the sauce into small paper cups and freeze them. Got a bunch stored for future uses.

The only one of those tomatoes I’ve ever seen before are the cherries! I thought at first the bigger ones were something like Sharon Fruits! Must be great – I only ever see tomatoes from the store…

Home grown tomatoes are very good. Sometimes our season is not long enough for them to ripen and we have to ripen them inside. This year has been longer, we have yet to have a frost, so we have had an abundance of ripe tomatoes.

I think home-grown everything usually taste better. I did have good strawberries and raspberries this year for a few weeks and really enjoyed the taste 🙂
